CONCEPTUAL TEXT: There are those who reduce it to a matter of horoscopes when we speak of air, water, earth, and fire. Three zodiac signs for each of the four domains. Twelve months that glide smoothly by, depending entirely on our willingness to interpret them.
In reality, however, if we pause to consider the four fundamental elements of our life—elements that should allow us to live in harmony with the planet—we realize this is no longer the case. We breathe polluted air that ruins our lungs; we gift our waters with plastic debris and doping substances; we till an earth that no longer possesses the correct attributes to produce safe food for our nourishment; and we witness a fire that has abandoned its purpose of generating warmth and craftsmanship to engage, instead, in arson.
Because the fifth element—which is us, humanity—has long since begun to ruin its own existence, defacing everything that surrounds us and everything we need to survive.
Preda’s protest offers us a starting point for reflection and profound, salvific meditation. This theme will be the core of an artistic gathering in Cremona on September 25, 2026, at Palazzo Sperlari, where the commemorative artwork will be unveiled to the public during a vernissage rich with compelling invitations to reflect.
